I hope that my self-reflections, suggestions, tips, and ideas prove to be a souce of mentorship education, encouagement and motivation. Become a mentor too, and share your experiences with the world.
Hug student says she was lucky to have a mentor, Reno Gazette-Journal, June 4, 2009 The UNR community has partnered in the ASCENT program since its inception, with some members mentoring Hug students. “I think it’s an absolutely terrific program,” said UNR President Milton Glick, whose wife was a mentor. “You know, just a few years ago, Hug was one of the lowest-performing schools in Northern Nevada, and now it is sending a large number of students to UNR, and more of its students are taking college curriculum courses at Hug.” The ASCENT program is an example of what Nevada needs to do if it wants to improve its economy, he said.
I am the media specialist of the communications department at the University of Nevada, Reno.
I believe that every student should be given the opportunity to speak with an adult who can help lead them to the best decision(s) for their future. Many times, our youth will flounder just because no one was there to listen. I want to be there to listen, to lead and to help someone get to the next phase of their life.
I hope to see a high school student confidently make the choice to continue their education and I would like to assist in giving them the correct tools and resources for them to easily do so.
